Thanks again to CSSiPhone for showcasing the iPhone companion site for Ben Wisch.

I found myself asking myself: is there something wrong with the iPhone companion site we developed for The Struggle and the Progress? It was passed-over multiple times, on several iPhone showcase sites—for some rather dodgy iPhone work. I’ll be diplomatic, and leave it at “dodgy”. Am I bitter? Not at all. Confused? Slightly.
We are pretty proud of it.

As promised, Art&Mobile launched another highly anticipated application today. TiltShift Generator for iPhone is like no other camera app. Give it a shot and breathe some new life into your photos. It really is amazing how this can create an alternate world.

Until we have our heads comfortably wrapped-around the foggy world of the mobile design experience, we have launched a basic mobile page for the Analogue web presence. From what we have learned so far, the process of detecting mobile device browsers should be much more straightforward. So, for now, we offer: m.analogue.ca

In the coming weeks, Analogue will be presenting the iPhone companion site to the Struggle and the Progress. Visitors will be able to navigate through each track, preview + buy via iTunes, and check the official Twitter feed.

“Over the past couple of years, consumers have adopted the mobile web at a pace much faster than anybody anticipated. This shift in consumer behavior has huge implications, and it will force all of us— service providers, content owners and advertisers—to rethink our businesses before the critical mass of consumer behavior swarms us. No longer should we debate whether consumers will use mobile phones as a primary source of information and entertainment. The question is when the tipping point will happen.”

Every now and then, an iPhone application is released to the App Store that is like nothing else, or at the very least, considered highly original. Josh Davis has done just this: released a signature iPhone app, that combines his love of generative art, originality, and digital beauty. Along with “Bloom”, and to a degree “Pollock” (and a small handful of other apps), this is something that you’ll most likely find yourself lost in for hours at a time—and I’ve only been using it for 20 minutes…

Today we announce the launch of our 2nd iPhone experience.
Set your phasers to stun, and your iPhones to i33.

Today we officially launch the Analogue iPhone-optimized website. With the announcement yesterday of the iPhone 3GS, and just as important—the price reduction of the standard iPhone 3G to $99, we feel the iPhone can no longer be ignored as some fringe platform (you’d be surprised at the resistance some have to this device—and always for some petty personal preference, or even worse, for some bizarre loyalty to an inferior brand or platform).
Why develop a special “iPhone version” of your site (replying to a comment we received a while back regarding separate iPhone-optimized sites)? Because our site is Flash-based—that’s why. Until Flash and the iPhone can play nicely, then we will require 2 experiences.
There is also no need to provide a unique URL to people, either. With a bit of javascript magic, the iPhone and iPod Touch are easily detected: desktop browsers see the standard site, iPhones see their own…

I’ve always “dug” the San Fransisco Odopod vibe, and I’ve always put them in the same class as Big Spaceship, Firstborn, Method, Fi, etc, etc—the somewhat “mainstream” agencies that still did cutting-edge digital work—the stuff that still garnered Sites-of-the-Day from the FWA…
Odopod has always “got” it. Hope it stays that way.

To be able to blog from the iPhone is a wonderful thing (which is what I’m doing right now). Now that we have officially ported our blog over to not only Media Temple, but also to Wordpress, we will begin exploring the world of mobile, how it relates to design—and how it can be leveraged intelligently for business.
Again, it’s never been more exciting to be a designer.
